Every once in a while, during my time at Apical Reform, I was allowed to explore ideas and work on projects of my choosing.

The artwork funnels out of the ceiling toward onlookers underneath, giving the impression that it’s listening to the earth. While from below one can see a very smooth finish of the inner surface, the outer surface from the top offers a completely different picture, that of a corroded, decaying surface. Façade.

The structure is a call to human race for reconsideration, to slow down and take heed, and listen to what’s natural. It builds and further abstracts on the idea of what we perceive of beauty and the unpleasant. The rotting iron, and the smooth, clean finish are metaphors. What we see as beautiful (a fresh leaf) and decaying (a dying tree) are but part of a larger scheme.

The scale and the mild sound distortions when standing under, help amplify the artwork’s aura.

This artwork takes inspiration from the physics of an Organ. The oncoming drafts driven through the pipes of varying lengths, give a gentle voice to the quiet winds.
